Put on some pipes, Dave Platts, with the cat on, had it re-tuned and only had minor deceleration popping on heavy deceleration. Lately the deceleration popping has gotten MUCH worse. I pulled off the exhaust chrome covers and sprayed soap and water on the joints before and after the cat. All leak a bit, re-torqued to spec and still leaking. No leaking at the head. Fairly sure I used new exhaust gaskets when I did this. Questions: 1 - I am guessing this would cause the popping? 2 - Going to buy some new exhaust gaskets but not sure, don't want to just start buying stuff? 3 - Should I use any sealant along with the gaskets? (read in a post somewhere)

Thanks,
Pat

The decal popping is cause by having modified the exhaust system and the tune is ever so slightly lean on the deacceleration phase. that can be changed by 1: Changing the tune ( there are tuners in the "Tune Repository" to counter this but all bike are different and it may or may not work) and richening that part up slightly or alternatively getting into the habit of holding the throttle open on decel the slightest of slightest amount. ( I am talking maybe 1/64 to 1/32") the slightest amount.

Re the exhaust leaks. if the gaskets are in reasonable condition I would not be applying sealant and it makes them harder to remove next time. Just ride the bike and let the exhaust gas components take up the leaks.
